Lady loves visiting the seashore. She enjoys digging lots of holes, taking naps under umbrellas, and racing around in the sand.
But what about ocean swimming? She won’t go.
Fortunately, she doesn’t have to feel left out when playing fetch in the ocean since her pal Maui is willing to assist her retrieve the stick from the waves.
“Maui is like an older brother to Lady, and Lady is like a sassy little sister always taking the credit for what he does,” Lady’s mom, Erika Ekman, told The Dodo. “It’s so cute and funny!”

Ekman often takes Lady to dog-friendly beaches around their home in Orange County, California. Lady has never liked swimming. In fact, it took the cautious golden a long time to feel comfortable just going in up to her ankles.
“She is not a confident dog, but she has come a long way to even be standing that far in the ocean,” Ekman said. “She loves water now, but she won’t swim without a lot of encouragement, and she is still afraid of big waves.”
Lady and Maui became friends after meeting at a nearby dog park. Given that Lady is not a great swimmer and Maui is, they make the ideal team. They socialize and have fun together frequently, sometimes near water.
Maui always brings Lady the pool toys, according to Ekman. Lady enjoys waiting and waiting at the stairs before snatching the toy out of his mouth and bringing it to a safe location.
Ekman is really appreciative to Lady for pushing her to spend out outside and for assisting them both in making new friends like Maui and his family.
Ekman stated, “[Lady] absolutely transformed our way of life and let us to enjoy the stunning natural beauty California has to offer.” “Mentally and physically, we are in much better shape than we were. She is also the reason we have made so many wonderful friends together!
Every day offers Lady a fresh opportunity to play outside. And if she ever experiences fear? Nearly always, a buddy like Maui is available to assist.
