It was evident that the pit bull was perplexed when Baby was dumped off at Griffin Pond Animal Shelter. The year-old dog, found wandering the streets of Northeastern Pennsylvania, was suddenly in a strange place with unfamiliar people, and she didn’t like it.
She yearned to find safety or return to her house. P.J. Regan, the shelter’s medical manager, then took a picture.
“You could tell she was definitely nervous in the new environment and new surroundings,” Ashley Wolo, Griffin Pond Animal Shelter’s executive director, told The Dodo. “That picture of her looking out the window of the door kind of looks as if she was waiting for her owner to come through. It was heartbreaking, to say the least.”
At the shelter, Baby was vetted, dewormed and treated for fleas and ticks. And though she was feeling better, the stress of the kennel was causing her to shut down emotionally.
Wolo stated that because there are so many other dogs in the kennel area, there is a lot of barking, it is rather loud, and it is undoubtedly stressful. She was a completely different dog when she was in our play area outside. She enjoyed playing and running about. She revealed a new aspect to us that was characteristic of a dog.
Pregnant Dog Rescue was contacted by shelter staff to inquire about space for Baby. The pit bull got along so well with the other dogs that they immediately agreed to accept her, but that didn’t last long.
After just a few short days, Baby was adopted along with another dog from the rescue. And her new family are head-over-heels for her.
In an email to Baby’s adopters, they stated, “She has been a perfect dog from the minute we got her home.” She presented herself as though she had been present throughout. She is terrific on a leash and has good table manners.
Baby’s family continued, “I work from home, and she sits and sleeps so calmly on my feet while I’m working.” “A nicer dog has never existed,”
In her new home, Baby has entirely changed. Now, the only time she longs to look out a window is when she is anticipating her devoted family’s return home with a gift for her.
