It could have seemed like just another watering hole to these thirsty lions, a nice location to pause and cool their throats.
But as it happened, it wasn’t simply a puddle.
A little turtle called it home. He didn’t appear to desire company either.
In South Africa’s MalaMala Private Game Reserve, Reggi Barreto, a safari guide and photographer, was with a client when they encountered a pair of big cats. Unaware of the drama that was about to take place, Barreto grabbed his camera.
Barreto told LatestSightings.com, “I knew the lions would hunt for water to drink, so we positioned ourselves in the ideal spot with the sun in our advantage, waiting for the sighting.” What followed caught us off guard.
The resident turtle at the watering hole watched the lions as they drank. And this is how it transpired:
The hardy turtle obviously didn’t hesitate when it came to approaching those much larger lions, despite the fact that they appeared to view him as little more than a bother.
Even yet, Barreto considered it a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see such a lopsided deadlock.
He said, “It was a really unique sighting for me to film.
