A dog that used to hate the sensation of a tender hand is now learning to appreciate it.
Following Monica Mitreanu’s sharing of a video of the little puppy, Kayne, in an animal shelter in Romania in November of last year, Kayne has captured the attention of social media users all over the world. He was subjected to such severe maltreatment before being saved that the thought of being touched practically caused him to scream out in horror.
Kayne has unwittingly become an emblem for the horrors of animal maltreatment as a result of the upsetting video’s millions of online views. But that is not where his narrative ends.
It wasn’t immediately obvious what had happened to Kayne, maybe because of misunderstandings around the puppy’s name (Priscilla, as it had been referred to elsewhere). We now know that Kayne has changed as a result of a Facebook update from animal rescuer Kerry Wollacott, who works to preserve dogs in Romania.
The dog is shown being handled lovingly in more recent footage. Additionally, there will be a lot more of it in the future.
Kayne has subsequently been sent to a foster home abroad, where he has been matched with a family, claims Wollacott:
“I’m sure you can all recall the now-famous sobbing dog whose video went viral and whose howl touched everyone’s heart. Here is tiny Kayne, who just returned from the veterinarian after receiving his shots in preparation for his departure from Romania on December 17 to begin his new life in the UK.
