When the br.oken dog understands he is at last safe, he cannot stop grinning.

Animals who experience maltreatment may give up on life and believe that happiness is not possible. When Sanford arrived at a Texas shelter, he was seen as a “broken dog.”
He had been shot in the better leg in addition to being ran over. He continued to stand in the shelter’s corner without turning to face anyone. However, he hasn’t stopped grinning since a foster mother took him home and introduced him to her different other foster dogs, writes pawmypets.com

He is allegedly the happiest dog Karen Velazquez, the foster mother, has ever encountered. Karen told The Dodo, “I am currently on my 52nd foster, and I can honestly say that I’ve never had somebody as joyful as him. “He stares at me in a manner that no other animal or person, even my own pets, has ever looked at me. In essence, the only times he is not grinning are while he is eating or sleeping. Animal control authorities discovered him next to the road after he was run over and discovered to have a bullet wound in his right hind leg.

He was brought to a small shelter in Dallas, but because of a lack of resources, he received no medical attention. Fortunately, a volunteer from local dog rescue organization Dallas DogRRR saw Sanford and knew she had to help right away.

He was actually damaged. Then when the volunteer came to see him, he didn’t really try to find the volunteer or even say hello, according to Kerry Anechiarico, executive supervisor of Dallas DogRRR, who spoke to The Dodo. It almost seemed as though he had given up and was just waiting for the right moment to find. He was sent to foster mother Karen’s home and transformed into a different dog after receiving the necessary medical attention.

Since then, he has been beaming, she said. “I believe he realized he was in a refuge the moment he entered my house,” I said. Sanford, or “Sanfee” to Karen, is currently enjoying life to the fullest by eating home-cooked meals, going for daily walks, and playing with his new canine friends. The 10-year-old dog needs a permanent home and is energetic for his age.
